The Richmond Hill High School football program is coming off its best season since 1996.

That success has apparently put some spring into the Wildcats’ step during spring football.

"We felt we had a great spring," said coach Lyman Guy, whose 2011 Wildcats put together a 6-4 record and had a shot at a state playoff berth until late in the season.

The turnaround hasn’t gone unnoticed at the school, which begins play in Region 3-AAAAA this fall.

More than 140 players came out for spring football as Richmond Hill tries to fill holes left behind by departing seniors such as linebacker Connor Beeson, slotback Alex Cruz, defensive back Aaron Dixon, running back T.J. Franklin, offensive lineman Nick Johnson and linebacker Trevor Thomas.

Cruz, Dixon, Franklin and Johnson were first team All-Region 2-AAAA selections. Beeson and Thomas were honorable mention picks.

"We answered some questions as far as depth and have aligned up our 1s and 2s to compete for starting positions," Guy said.
