Wildcats fall to Lee County

Richmond Hill fell at Lee County 29-21 Friday night in the first round of the state playoffs, the Wildcats' first road loss of the year.

The Trojans led 17-14 at halftime. Richmond Hill's first touchdown came on a 47-yard pass from Kasey Green to Sam James in the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7, and the Wildcats tied the game at 14-14 later in the second quarter on a short touchdown run by Maurice Smith. That score was set up by a 79-yard run by Aaron Bedgood on the Wildcats' first play from scrimmage after the kickoff.

Lee County hit a field goal with 11 seconds left in the half to regain the lead.

The Trojans extended their lead to 26-14 in the third quarter, hitting another field goal and returning an interception for a touchdown within a minute of each other. The Wildcats stopped Lee County's two-point conversion. 

Richmond Hill was able to narrow the score to 26-21 with 1:38 left in the third quarter when Bedgood took a direct snap and scored from two yards out. 

Lee County went up 29-21 early in the fourth quarter on another field goal.

On the Wildcats' final series of the game, Green hit Matt Daniel on fourth-and-three for a 33-yard gain, then found James for another first down on third-and-10 with a minute left. Richmond Hill turned the ball over on downs when Green was sacked on fourth-and-10 at the Trojan 26 with 26 seconds left.

Green was 14-for-26 passing for 145 yards and a touchdown on the night. Seven of those completions and the score were to James for 85 yards. Bedgood had 132 yards rushing on nine carries. Joseph Petrino hit all three of his extra points, while Nico DeCosta led the Richmond Hill defense with 13 tackles.
