The Richmond Hill volleyball team fell in straight sets at Greenbrier Tuesday night in the Sweet 16 of the AAAAAA state tournament.

The scores were 12-25, 18-25 and 19-25.

“I am very proud of the fight we put up,” Coach Taisa Tremble said. “Our serve receive killed us in the first game, but we made adjustments and stepped up our game. Greenbrier has a very strong and consistent team, but I am proud of how we rallied with them.”

Mackenzie Petermann led the Wildcats with seven kills, while Kaleigh Faldowski had five kills.

“As a coach, I am excited to build off this season and keep moving forward with the young talent we have in our program,” Tremble said.

The Wildcats reached the Sweet 16 last week, beating Drew in five sets.

Richmond Hill dropped the first set 21-15, then evened the match at one set apiece with a 25-23 win. The Titans took a 2-1 lead with a 25-17 win in the third set, following by Richmond Hill’s 27-25 victory in the fourth set.

The Wildcats pulled away in the fifth and deciding set with a 15-5 win.

“Drew had excellent and consistent defense, which made it difficult to get our offense going,” Tremble said. “We were able to hold onto the match by keeping our serve receive and serves consistent.”

Petermann led the Wildcats against Drew with 26 kills and 15 digs on the night. Sekala Goodwin added seven kills and Skylar Wellington had 11 aces.
