Wildcat tennis gearing up for region showdowns

Both Richmond Hill tennis teams are 2-0 in Region 2-AAAAAA with key matches over the next two weeks.

The Wildcats are at Effingham Tuesday, then host Glynn Academy at Henderson Park on March 20. The region tournament is April 10 at Henderson Park.

The girls’ team, 7-1 overall, defeated St. Vincent’s Academy Wednesday 4-1. Hannah Yontz and Megan Bausch won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, as did the doubles teams of Bridgett Cox/Grace Cantele and Bailey Lopata/Caren Bausch.

Yontz, who Coach Jeff Graham said could be region player of the year, is 4-0, while Megan Bausch is 7-0. Yontz missed the first few matches of the spring while finishing up basketball season.

The boys’ team is now 6-2 overall after falling to Benedictine Wednesday. Freshman Jackson Martin is 7-0 at No. 3 singles. Joe Belfield and James Shin are 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Miguel Rodriguez and Ryan Renshaw are 5-2 at No. 2 doubles.
