Experiencing an undefeated season is special for any athlete and team, regardless of the playing level.

Richmond Hill’s junior varsity girls’ basketball team did just that this year with a 15-0 record.

Frieda Clark, in her first year coaching the jayvees, said they embodied the acronym TEAM — Together Everyone Achieves More.

“Throughout the course of the season we strived to play team basketball and work together as a unit,” she said. “Their hard work, hustle and execution on both ends of the floor was evident each time we stepped on the court.”

The team roster included: Shanissa Rasun, Jasmine Anderson, Nalexia Vann, Ashley Villalobos, Alex DeCosta, Madison Nudo, Bethany Philpot, Maliah Thornton, Kyra Finley and Azaria Johnson.

“On more than one occasion our team was complimented by other coaches regarding their style of play, court awareness and organization,” Clark added. “I am so proud of what they accomplished this year and look forward to what they will accomplish in the future both on and off the court.”

Sarah Jones, Richmond Hill’s varsity coach, is also looking forward to those accomplishments.

“Most of this group was together all summer and the foundation is definitely there as long as we keep working hard together,” she said. “I’m hoping that this success will follow them as they move up.”

Jones said several of the players were also able to log some minutes in varsity games and the varsity and jayvee teams practiced together daily.

“I think that has helped further develop the players with the competition they face each day in practice.”

The Wildcats face Bradwell Institute at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brunswick in the first round of the Region 2-AAAAAA tournament.

The Richmond Hill boys’ team also plays Bradwell at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Brunswick.
