Toccoa edges Martinez Evans National; Columbus Northern holds off Warner Robins American

Sunday's early games were both low-scoring affairs, as Columbus Northern held off Warner Robins American 1-0 and Toccoa fought back to knock off Martinez Evans National 3-2 in the second day of the 2012 Georgia Little League 10/11-year-old state championship in Richmond Hill.

Columbus Northern scored the game's only run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Noah Lee. Pitchers Trent Grantham, Lee and Colby Brabston teamed up to keep Warner American National off the scoreboard.

Corbet Luna, Bennett Wellman, Blake King and Cole Hooks split time on the mound for Warner Robins American.

In the other early game, Toccoa trailed by two runs heading into the final inning, but scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the win. Gabe White had the game-winning RBI for Toccoa and pitcher Mason Kimsey picked up the win in the final frame, allowing no hits, a walk and striking out two on nine pitches.

David Fulcher hit a home run for Martinez Evans National. Ashton Sturgell had a base hit.

Kayden Maxwell, Dawson Sorrells and White had hits for Toccoa.

Sunday's late afternoon games include host Coastal Little League facing Athen and South Fulton taking on Midway Heights.

Pool play continues through Wednesday. Monday's games include South Fulton vs. Toccoa at 10 a.m.; Athens vs. Martinez Evans at 1 p.m.; Warner Robins vs. Cartersville at 10 a.m. and Midway Heights vs. Columbus Northern at 1 p.m.
