The Richmond Hill softball team will host Houston County in the first round of the AAAAAA state tournament.
The best-of-three series will begin with a double-header at 4 p.m. Friday, with the if-necessary game at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The Wildcats finished as the No. 2 seed in Region 2-AAAAAA after dropping a double-header to Effingham in the region finals, 6-5 and 9-7.
Houston County, the No. 3 seed in Region 1-AAAAAA, is 16-8 overall and finished 5-3 in its region. Richmond Hill is now 15-9 overall and was 9-3 in the region. The Wildcats beat Brunswick 9-1 to advance to the region finals against the Rebels.
“We have a week until we play again,” Wildcats Coach Angie Hummeldorf said. “This will allow for us to focus on some of the little things on the field and allow some of our players to recuperate from some injuries.”
Richmond Hill has reached the Sweet 16 each of the last two years.
