Redskins fall in 2-AA semifinals

Bryan County High School lost a 51-48 heartbreaker to McIntosh County Academy in the semifinals of the Region 2-AAA boys’ basketball tournament Thursday at Long County High School.

The Redskins (19-7) play Benedictine in the loser’s bracket today. The winner gets the No. 3 seed from the region in the upcoming state Class Aa tourney.

Leading the way for Bryan County were Alex Simmons, Keyshaun Street and Kajana Dixon, who scored 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Redskins jumped out to an 18-6 first period lead, but the Cadets pulled to within 27-22 by halftime. The two teams played evenly in the third period, but Benedictine outscored Bryan County 15-7 over the final stanza to win the game.

 Region tournament scores:

Bryan County High school fell 56-46 to St. Vincent’s Academy in the girls’ 2-AA tournament, ending the Lady Redskins’ season at 14-13.

Camden County knocked off Richmond Hill 65-54 in the quarterfinals of the boys’ 3-AAAAA tournament Wednesday at Effingham County High School, to end the Wildcats season at 18-9. Isaiah Hill led RHHS with 32 points.

The Lady Wildcats fell 49-36 to Coffee County in the girls’ 3-AAAAA quarterfinals to finish 8-19.
