Lady Wildcats open season with a victory

The Richmond Hill girls’ soccer team opened the season Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Glynn County at RHHS.
Hailey Rey, Grace Kiser and Ruthie Riley scored one goal each for Richmond Hill. Riley, Rey and Samantha Howley recorded assists.

Richmond Hill keeper Bailey King made three saves.
The Lady Wildcats are coming off one of the best seasons in the successful program’s history. RHHS went 19-1 last season, won the Region 3-AAAAA title and made it to the Class AAAAA state quarterfinals for the fifth time in seven seasons.

This season, the squad is in transition. Head coach Steve Kollman said the team has a new group of starters in midfield and at forward, as well as at keeper. The team lost eight players from last season’s squad.
Not that that has led to a downgrade in expectations, however.

“We expect to compete for the region title and a No. 1 seed into the state tourney,” Kollman said.
Next up for RHHS is a home match with Savannah Arts Academy at 5 p.m. Friday.
