Junior golfers throughout Southern and Southeastern Georgia have a new venue for competitive golf. The new Golden Isles Players Tour is a regional tour for junior players who are looking for the opportunity to move to the next level of competitive golf. The Golden Isles Junior Tour (GIJT) and the new Golden Isles Players Tour (GIPT) are open for registration as both tours near their kick-off events for the 2012 season.

The GIJT will continue its second year of one-day tournaments in the Golden Isles, starting with the Sea Palms Classic on St. Simons Island on Monday, June 4. The event is the first of eight GIJT events to be held in coastal Georgia over the summer. The GIJT season includes two major championships and will conclude with the GIJT Tour Championship at summer’s end.

The new Players Tour will offer a series of two-day events held at courses throughout middle and southern Georgia. The tour has been scheduled around existing junior tours to the extent possible in order to maximize junior participation and strengthen the field at each event. The GIPT Kick-off Classic will be held at the popular Sea Island Retreat Course on June 2-3.

GIPT tournaments will also include events in Valdosta, Hawkinsville, Waverly, Thomasville, Bonaire and Savannah. Additional events are scheduled through the fall. All GIPT events are accredited using the Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS) points system.

Founded by former Sea Island golf professionals Jeremy Carter and Jonathan Mattox, the junior tour builds on a growing interest in junior golf and is designed to provide young players in southern Georgia with greater access to competitive play opportunities on some of the state’s best courses. Returning tour sponsors include The McGladrey Classic, the Davis Love Foundation and Bridgestone.

A discounted membership bundle package is being offered that allows players the opportunity to earn points on both tours. Junior players can join and register online, as well as maintain player bios and personal stats, view live scoring and standings in each age division, and gain visibility in the Coaches Corner where collegiate coaches can assess player results. Detailed information on membership, age divisions, event locations and registration for both tours can be found at www.goldenislesgolf.net
