The Richmond Hill volleyball team won its first two Region 2-AAAAAA matches of the season Thursday night, defeating Effingham 18-25, 25-18, 25-23 and Bradwell Institute 25-7, 25-17.

Mackenzie Petermann had 13 kills seven blocks and eight digs on the night. Chloe Allen added 10 kills and four aces, while Abbey Workman had 11 digs and four aces.

“The girls demonstrated a lot of perseverance,” Coach Taisa Tremble said. “We have been really working on our energy on the court and how we are attacking the ball. “Our mental strength is continuing to improve as we were not as affected by unforced errors.”

The Wildcats, 10-7 overall, host Savannah Country Day and Bradwell at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

RH Cross Country

The Richmond Hill girls’ and boys’ cross country teams both captured first place in a meet at Wayne County Thursday.

Bryan County Softball

Bryan County softball is 2-2 on the week with a game today at Portal beginning at 4 p.m.

The Redskins fell to Vidalia in region action 13-0 Tuesday before sweeping a double-header at home against Islands and Jenkins.

BCHS beat Islands 9-1 as Shelby Barfield threw a two-hitter and struck out seven. Alyssa Edwards was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Kelsey Leggett was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Against Jenkins, the Redskins fell behind 8-0 in the third inning before scoring five runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth for a 9-8 win. Barfield came on in relief and struck out six while going 2-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate. Shelby Gunn was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Bryan County, now 8-9 overall and 4-4 in Region 2-AA, scored twice in the top of the ninth Thursday at Metter to tie the game at 10-10, but the Tigers scored in their last at-bat for the 11-10 win.

Richmond Hill Softball

Richmond Hill’s softball team remains atop Region 2-AAAAAA with a 6-0 record, beating Glynn Academy 6-3 and 6-1 last week. The Wildcats dropped a non-region game to South Effingham 2-0 Wednesday and are scheduled to play three games today in a tournament at Greenbrier High School.
