Five Wildcats advance to state traditional wrestling sectionals
Wampler, Pierce win Region 2-AAAA crowns

Ethan Wampler and Kyle Pierce won Region 2-AAAA wrestling titles on Saturday at South Effingham High School and are among five Richmond Hill High School wrestlers who will advance to the state Class AAAA sectionals this weekend in Loganville.

Wampler, a junior, won the 120-pound title while Pierce, a senior, took the 138 crown.

The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the sectional competition. Finishing second and advancing was sophomore Zach Perez (132 pounds). Placing third and advancing is senior Brandon Mason (151). Junior Ian Phifer (145) grabbed fourth.

In addition, senior Karlton Green (126) and junior Jason Hzu (170) both finished fifth at the region meet and are alternate selections for the sectional competition.

Winners this weekend advance to the state Class AAAA finals beginning Feb. 17.
