More than 500 athletes from 20 schools — including Bryan County High School — participated in the Papa’s Pizza Alley Invite Thursday at Richmond Hill.

The meet included more than 1,020 individual performances.

“It takes a lot of planning and execution,” said Levi Sybert, Richmond Hill’s track and cross country coach. “A community like Richmond Hill can handle something like this because we have so many helpful and willing volunteers. Lots of moving pieces but in the end it works out great.”

Sybert said more than 30 parent volunteers helped the meet run smoothly and especially noted assistant coaches Heather Sybert, Colette Hammesfahr, Josh Eads and Mike Skinkle for their assistance.

The Wildcats captured five first-place during the meet, with the boys’ team taking first overall and the girls’ team finishing second.

Mackenzie Winkworth won the girls’ steeplechase, while the 4x400 team of Mackenzie Frei, Kayla Gholar, Alyssa Robinson and Kalia Whyte bested the field by more than six seconds.

Dillon Brown (steeplechase), Lucas Van Ginkle (800) and Jalen Murray (1600) captured first places for the boys’ squad.

The top eight finishers in each event earned points for their teams.
