With games last Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday nights the Bryan County Lady Redskins end their regular season with 3 wins and 21 losses. The Pierce County Lady Bears trampled the Lady ‘Skins 43-36 on Tuesday night, while the Claxton Lady Tigers pounced on the BCHS girls 50-46 Friday. Saturday night, the last game of the regular season, the Lady Redskins came close, but couldn’t pull out the win against Metter 45-43.

In the opening quarter of Tuesday night’s match-up that brought Pierce County to Pembroke, the Lady Redskins used 2 timeouts to rally against the Lady Bears, but could do no better than slowly creep up on the Pierce County lead. Turnovers would prove the Lady Redskins’ undoing, as the Lady Bears found the opportunities to convert.

In the second half of play, the Lady Bears proved they could turn the ball over as well, giving the BCHS girls the chance to creep up again in points, cutting the lead to within 2 halfway through the fourth quarter. After a forced Lady Bear timeout, the Lady ‘Skins tied the game for several long minutes. In the final seconds, two Lady Redskin fouls, one of which cause Liz Cross to foul out, put Pierce County twice at the line and the Bears went up by 4. The final buzzer saw the Lady Bears on top 43-36.

Scoring – Amber Smith 15, Liz Cross 15, Brittany Slater 4, and Monteza Bishop 2.

Claxton jumped to early lead on Friday night with a well executed offense, but the Lady Redskins pulled it together to come back from a 9-1 deficit to bring the score within 2. Halfway through the second quarter, the Lady ‘Skins took a 18-15 lead with Liz Cross, unfortunately, benched for the remainder of the first half after picking up her second foul.

In the second half, the lead went back and forth with the Lady Redskins losing the foul war 10-5, placing the Lady Tigers at double bonus. After Brittany Slater was injured in a fight for a rebound in the fourth quarter, Monteza Bishop and Liz Cross fouled out, leaving the Lady Redskins’ offense in serious trouble. Slater recovered from her injury and sunk a 3-pointer at 12.2 seconds left in the game, placing the Lady ‘Skins within 2. Two quick fouls put Claxton at the line with 2 made free-throws and the victory 50-46

Scoring – Amber Smith 16, Liz Cross 15, Brittany Slater 11, Mitzi Cross 3, and Shagavia Roberson 1.

The Metter Lady Tigers came out to a great start Saturday night with 6 unanswered points from Bryan County turnovers. In the second quarter, the Lady Redskins turned up the intensity and what had been an 8 point lead quickly dwindled to 2. Much of the rough play not called in the first half became fouls in the second half, sending both teams to the line. Metter’s 44 percent free-throws outmatched the Lady Redskins’ 30 percent.

With one minute on the clock, the game became a barn burner. Each team swapped a one point lead, but two turnovers gave the Lady Tigers a 4 point lead. A rocket pass towards the Lady ‘Skins basket set Brittany Slater up for a 3-point shot, bringing the game within one. The Lady Tigers were able to inbound the ball and waste enough time off the clock for the 45-43 victory.

Scoring – Liz Cross 18, Amber Smith 17, Brittany Slater 5, and Monteza Bishop 3.
