GSU Cross Country Finishes Third in Season Opener

Fort Jackson, S.C. – Georgia Southern Cross Country finished third at the Gamecock Invitational Friday evening, improving upon its finishes from the last three years for new Head Coach Marlo Mincey. Freshman Rebecca Greenwall (Athens, Ga.) paced the Eagles with a seventh-place individual finish, breaking into Georgia Southern’s all-time top 10 best times for the 5K with a time of 19:08:11 in her first collegiate competition.

Rebecca Greenwall led a pack of three Georgia Southern runners who finished in the top 20. Junior Sara Curry (Lawrenceville, Ga.) crossed the line in 12th place (19:33.93) and freshman twin sister Rachel Greenwall (Athens, Ga.) posted a time of 20:03.73, which placed her 20th.

 

Senior Brittani Martin (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished 32nd (20:58.26), while freshman Megan Sullivan rounded out a strong showing for the Eagle newcomers with a time of 21:08.42, good enough for 34th place in her first race as an Eagle.


Lindsay Mullican (Lancaster, Pa.), Victoria Richards (Alma, Ga.), Talisha Rice (Stockbridge, Ga.), Azura Robillard (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) and Asea Mayfield (Marietta, Ga.) finished in the top 50.

 

The Georgia Southern Cross Country team races next at the College of Charleston Invite on Saturday, September 10th. The race begins at 5 p.m.
