Tails on Trails Club – Dogs need exercise too, so leash up Fido and lace up your hiking boots. When you join this dog-walking quest, you’ll receive a t-shirt for yourself and matching bandana for your pet. Hiking & Sniffing Trails – Whether you’re walking a Greyhound or a Basset Hound, you’ll find the perfect outing together. Almost all Georgia State Parks welcome leashed pets on hiking trails. Many even schedule ranger-led hikes where you can make new canine friends. Popular parks include Sweetwater Creek State Park near Atlanta, Don Carter State Park on Lake Lanier, Red Top Mountain State Park on Lake Allatoona or Crooked River State Park in St. Marys. Canine Camping – On the hunt for pet-friendly campsites? More than 40 Georgia State Parks have campgrounds that welcome dogs of all sorts and sizes. To make it even better, there is no extra fee. Dog-Friendly Cabins – Your pet is family, so bring Bailey along when you rent a designated dog-friendly cottage. Dog Splash & Luau – Can’t handle the heat? On Saturday, September 7, your pooch can cool off at the Dog Splash & Luau at F.D. Roosevelt State Park in Pine Mountain. On the last day of the swimming season, Fido is free to take a dip in the pool -- leash free -- while you enjoy music and activities provided by the Columbus-area PetSmart.
