Brooke Barfield’s no-hitter carried the Bryan County High School softball team to a 1-0 win over Long County on Tuesday.

The senior ace struck out seven batters and walked two through seven hitless innings. She also doubled in the third inning.

The Lady Redskins’ third straight win raised their record to 13-4 overall and 7-1 in Region 2-AA, keeping them one loss behind undefeated Vidalia in the standings. Long County fell to 10-8 and 2-6.

Long County’s Harley Dawson pitched a gem of her own, allowing only three hits and an unearned run while striking out 13 and walking five.

A costly error enabled Bryan County to score the game’s only run in the second inning. Taylor Roop laid down a sacrifice bunt, and the third baseman’s errant throw to first allowed Roop to run all the way to third and Layton Harrell to cross home.

Harrell and Shelby Barfield had the Lady Redskins’ other two hits.

Brooke Barfield has allowed only one hit over consecutive complete-game shutouts. She one-hit Jeff Davis in Bryan County's 4-0 win on Thursday, striking out eight and walking two.

Harrell homered as the Lady Redskins swept the season series with Jeff Davis.

Bryan County will play a doubleheader at winless Groves on Thursday, starting at 4 p.m. The Lady Redskins will play five games in the North Cobb Tournament this weekend before returning home to face Bacon County next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
