Bryan County High School senior A.J. Simmons signed a letter of intent Friday to play basketball at Gordon State College in Barnesville.

“When I went on a visit, it felt like home once I got there,” he said.

A 6-foot-6 power forward, Simmons averaged 16 points, 12 rebounds and three assists per game as a senior in leading the Redskins to a 20-8 record.

Simmons said the Gordon State coaches have discussed the possibility of moving him to small forward or shooting guard. He will have the opportunity from the start to earn playing time.

“They said basically it’s on me,” Simmons said. “It’s according to how hard I come in working.”
