What the world needs to know about Jesus, Part 2
pastor corner

With the Christmas season swiftly passing too soon for children, not fast enough for most parents, the world will soon be back to normal. With life becoming busy again soon many will forget the feeling of wanting to help others and giving to others. The thoughts about Jesus and why He came to earth will soon be pushed to the back burner in many minds. This is why man needs to know more about the one called Jesus than just His birth and death.

Jesus took on the form of man and the form of a servant. Paul wrote, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil. 2:5 – 11). In this passage Paul shows that Jesus was obedient which means man should be obedient to God’s will also. The Hebrew writer also spoke of this obedience when he wrote, “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; “(Heb. 5:8, 9). Mankind should be able to see just how deep the love of God and Jesus when they understand just how terrible the death of the cross really was. The Romans knew how to punish a person. Jesus was scourged. This was when a person was whipped with a whip that had sharp objects attached to the ends of the whip. The back would be laid open from the whip. When He arrived at Golgotha His feet and hands had metal spikes driven through them as they affixed Him to the cross. Hanging on the cross the victim had trouble breathing from the way they were hanging. All this agony so man could have the opportunity of salvation. This is why man need to know more than there are just a couple holidays about Jesus. Man needs to see just who and what this one called Jesus did for them.

Man should also realize that this God – Man calls for unity among His followers. Yes unity. In a religious world so divided it seems hard to believe that unity should exist, but this is just what Jesus desires. Notice His prayer just before going to be sacrificed for mankind. “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me” (John 17:20, 21).  Jesus wants His followers to be united as one just as He and God are one. Think about the peace and harmony that would exist in the world if everyone would heed this prayer. Paul echoed the words of Jesus in his letter of First Corinthians (1 Cor. 1:1 – 10). Jesus wants the best for mankind and He knows being unified in religious matters is important for mankind.

The point of all this is that there is so much more to know about Jesus than just His birth and death. God wants all men to be saved and He sent His Only Begotten Son to die for mankind. This one called Jesus is both Lord and Christ. Study His word and obey His teachings while the opportunity is available.
