What to do with our anxieties
pastor corner

If we would be honest with ourselves, we would have to admit that there are times in our lives where we experience anxious moments. There are times when doubt rises and faith shrinks.

We find a good example of this in the story of the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea. The Israelites were full of joy when they were set free from slavery in Egypt and headed for “the promise land”. The problem occurred when Pharoah changed his mind and decided to go after them and to bring them back into slavery. Exodus 14:10 puts it this way, “As Pharoah approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord.”

At the Red Sea these Israelites felt trapped with no place to go. They were left with two options, give up and surrender to the enemy or exercise faith. Moses, their leader led them as a man of faith and God honored that faith by opening up the sea for them to walk across it on dry land. Then as the enemy went after them, they ended up being drowned in this sea as God caused the waters to come back together over them.

Another way of saying we need to have faith is by doing what is instructed for us to do in 1 Peter 5:7.

This scripture says for us to cast all our anxieties on the Lord. The reason given is because God cares for us. In other words, when we experience anxiety, we need to understand that if we give that situation over to God then He will help us through it because we really matter to Him.

So, the next time you feel anxious, don’t allow yourself to be defeated, rather put your trust in God.
