Value your soul while you have time

God has blessed mankind with life and all time to prepare for eternity. He has given the instructions in the Bible on how he wants man to live.

God gave the only sacrifice that can remove sin from one’s soul, the life blood of Jesus Christ (Heb. 4). It is left up to man to take advantage of what God has offered.

Thought should be given to spiritual matters, things such as the value of the soul. In Matthew 18 Jesus tells of the shepherd that has a lost sheep and how he goes to retrieve the lamb. Then he said, “Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish” (Mat 18:14).

No soul is unimportant to God, but each person must realize importance of their soul.

Man needs to comprehend the uncertainty of life. “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (James 4:14).

Everyone must die. This fact is a part of life. It matters not the great plans one may lay for the future, death can come when it is least expected.

Men make all kind of plans for the future. Some make financial plans so that they can live in their “old age” without fear of going broke. Sadly, many such people fail to lay up “treasures in heaven.” They only see the here and now, not eternity.

Others seek to gain all the riches they can to leave large fortunes to their children. They spend so much time trying to make a dollar they spend no time with their families and miss out on some of the grandest opportunities of life seeing their children grow up.

These people also fail to train their children about spiritual matters, so not only will they miss heaven, but their children may do the same thing.

Man needs to take advantage of the time God has blessed him with and prepare now for eternal life. It takes a constant effort to keep one’s mind on the goal set before them – heaven.

It is easy to get caught up in all the cares of this life and forget to look to the future. God has warned man not to place his trust in the world (1 Jno. 2:15ff). He wants man to spend eternity in heaven, but he will not force him to go, it is up to each individual.

All men should be interested and excited to spend eternity in heaven. Paul spoke of it in this manner, “For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:” (Phil 1:23).

Preparing to spend eternity with God will cause one to have a better life now. Turn to God, study his word, and obey his word.

Believe in Jesus as God’s Son, repent of sins, confess Jesus as God’s Son, be baptized for the remission of sins, then remain faithful to God. Take advantage of the opportunity given by God.
