Editor, We at the United Way are extremely grateful to our Bryan County partners. Our 2014 campaign goal was $75,000, and our amazing community helped us raise a little over $80,000 to date.
Hobart historically had been the largest contributor, but unfortunately, the local plant closed prior to our kickoff, so we knew we were going to have some challenges in meeting the goal from the beginning.
We had new businesses that partnered with us this year, for whom we are extremely thankful. We also had some past loyal contributors who generously gave and helped drum up the largest amount ever raised within their organization. The Bryan County Board of Education had an overall increase in giving, through its employee-payroll campaign, of 44.03 percent, and donations totaled over $39,000, making them the largest monetary donor in the county. Each department and school engaged in “healthy competition” and came up with unique ways to raise funds and have fun at the same time. Two assistant principals at Richmond Hill High School even shaved their heads once they reached their internal goal set by their school administration and staff.
The second-largest business contributor was Publix. Not only does Publix run an employee-payroll campaign, they also provide breads and pastries every week for distribution to low-income individuals and families. The third top contributor was Pembroke Advanced Communications. In addition to their financial support, their employees volunteer with United Way and offer valuable assistance throughout the year.
We appreciate all of our business partners and  want to thank them for their support:
