Editor, I am disappointed and concerned to learn that Family Dollar will be opening its doors next month and the Highway 17 at Mulberry Drive traffic light will apparently not be operational until the “early part of next year.”

As I recall, the agreement between the city and developer was that the store was not to open for business until the traffic light was operational due to public safety concerns at the intersection that has experienced several serious accidents due to heavy traffic volume. Is my recollection correct?

Let’s hope and pray that no one is seriously injured while we wait for the light to be installed and becomes operational, whenever that will be.
