The start of the 2019 legislative session will be part of Georgia’s rich history, something our children’s children will read about one day. We said good-bye to Governor Nathan Deal, who will be remembered as a strong leader who helped our state become more innovative, remain economically strong, and continue to be a desired place to live and work. And we witnessed the inauguration of Governor Brian Kemp, a dynamic leader who emphasized in his inaugural speech the motto of his mentor, Coach Billy Henderson, that “it can be done” as we work together toward in unity and collaboration. He outlined his vision for providing even better education for our students, high-speed internet to rural areas, for lowering taxes, and protecting the values that keep families and communities strong.
I stand strong with Governor Kemp and his rallying cry for unity and collaboration. I have friends on both sides of the aisle and will always work with them with integrity and respect, as this is the only way to honor the people we serve and get things done. I was humbled as I traveled to Atlanta, that you have once again given me your trust as I represent you. As I work during the session, I will take the beauty of our community and, most importantly, the families I represent, with me.
Preparing for the work of this legislative session also meant that the Committee on Assignments published committee appointments for the next two years. I was very pleased to learn that I was appointed Chairman of the Economic Development and Tourism Committee, and as a member of the Appropriations Committee, Rules Committee, and Ways and Means Committee. Being part of these committees means that I will have direct input on legislation that’s being considered and debated, and I take this responsibility seriously. As I roll up my sleeves this session, I will consider not only the important issues for this year or the next, but how legislation could affect our state for the foreseeable future. Now that I’m a grandfather, this long-term view is even more important to me as I want our state to be in great shape for the generations that follow me.
We’re just getting started and there’s still much work to be done as the session continues. Your input is invaluable to me as I represent you under the gold dome! Please know that I’m available to you at 404-656-5115 or at firstname.lastname@example.org throughout the legislative process and look forward to hearing your questions and concerns. Thank you for allowing me to represent you!
