The real purpose of Christmas
pastor corner

If we define what Christmas really is, we would say it is the celebration and commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ. So, what was the purpose in Jesus being born?

One of the reasons for His coming was to fulfill the many prophesies from scripture that told of Him.

Also, that He would teach us how to become a child of the Father and how to live the kind of life that would please the Father. He also came to show us by example how to live such a life. But the main reason why He came was to save us from our sins by dying on a cross for them. The name Jesus actually means “God saves”, so it was through His sacrifice that God saves us from our sins. This goes along with what was said in Matthew 1:21: “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

You can only experience this real meaning of Christmas if you personally have received forgiveness by trusting in what Jesus has done for you. Otherwise, the birth of Jesus is just an event in history; just a story being told. The good news is, and always has been, that the salvation made available through the death and resurrection of Jesus is available to anyone who will receive it. My prayer for any of you who have not received this salvation is that you will. Let this Christmas season be a special time for you.
