The promise of an inheritance
pastor corner

In the Bible, those of us who become followers of Jesus Christ, are promised an inheritance at the end of this life. This same Bible also tells us several things about our inheritance.

The receiving of this inheritance is based on us actually becoming followers of Jesus. Ephesians 1:11 says, “In him (Jesus Christ) we have obtained an inheritance.”

This inheritance includes us receiving new bodies, replacing the ones we have that will continue to wear out and is susceptible to disease, sickness and all kinds of handicaps. 1 Corinthians 15:52 supports this when it says, “For the trumpet will sound, and the dead in Christ will be raised imperishable (that’s free and immune from decay), and we shall be changed (transformed).”

Our inheritance means we will be free from emotional pain. Many times the emotional pain hurts worse than physical pain. Revelation reminds us that, “He (God) will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain...”

Another piece of good news about our inheritance is that no one can take it away from us – no court system, no thief, no devil, plainly nobody. 1 Peter 1:4 says that it is “an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.” God is not going to change his mind, as long as we trust in his grace we have more than we can imagine to look forward to.

The good news is this inheritance is available to anyone who will choose to become a follower of Jesus Christ.
