Letter to the editor: Seafood Festival a great time, but $$
LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Editor:

The Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival is a time all look forward to, especially for the various food vendors and their varied wonderfully delicious cuisines.

Unfortunately, inflation is kicking our butts and prices will be the highest we’ve ever seen. Can’t blame the cooks as they’re out there to make a buck, which this year may be just pennies as they try to keep their specialties affordable. They not only have to deal with inflated food costs but rental space to set up is now astronomical (which they have to recoup elevating their food prices) This year a family with three children will have to shell out 100 bucks just to walk through the gates and get a whiff of the wonderful aromas that fill the park. Add a hamburger with drink another $100? Cotton candy or ice cream and a souvenir, how many hundreds (perhaps even your shirt) will it cost before you’re flat broke and crawl out of the park.

Compare entry prices for today and not so long ago: NOW: Friday Ages 6 and up, $12 Saturday Ages 6-15 $18 16-up $20 After 5 p.m. gate price all ages $35 Sunday $8 pre-sale, $10 gate price Kids 5-and-under free all weekend THEN: Once you’ve secured a parking spot, tickets can be purchased at the main gate with cash or a local check. Friday tickets will be $5 starting at 5 p.m., Saturday tickets will be $3 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and $10 after that; Sunday tickets will be $3 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Children aged three and under are free; children aged four to 12 can get tickets for $2.

In this time of highest inflation in decades how about the RHCC cut their prices a bit. It’s not going to hurt to only make ½ ZILLION this year instead of a ZILLION. But then again, I don’t have a dog in this fight.
