I was a long-time resident of the Richmond Hill area. When my wife retired a little over eight years ago we sold our house at Rabbit and Fox roads just out of the city limits of the Hill and moved to our house in Ellijay, Ga., in Gilmer County.

I was informed that Richmond Hill City Council is considering building an airport. This is what happened in Gilmer County shortly after we moved here. The county commissioner’s took it upon themselves to build an airport without giving residents a chance to vote on it. The airport was built and is having to be maintained by the county.

There are federal laws that dictate how this is to be done. We used to have county dumpsters on various places to haul trash to. The county did away with them and has now gone to a private company to run the trash dumps because the people who were doing that were county employees. They are now maintaining the airport.

The county roads department has also had to use some of its workers on airport maintenance. This has led to our roads not being maintained as they were before the airport was built.

The airport has really put a burden on us.

We are relocating soon back to Richmond Hill because of health problems. I hope the residents of Richmond Hill and Bryan County will be given the chance to vote on this matter. I’m just guessing there are not that many residents who would be using and airport .

Why not in my opinion, build something like an indoor pool/skating rink. That would benefit so many more residents.

I was asked to write you concerning this matter by a couple of my friends that are residents of the Hill. They are in hopes maybe a poll could be conducted concerning this matter.
