Democrats need to get it together and stop moping. For four years Dems insisted Donald Trump was a danger to American life. No sooner had the man been voted out than he proved them correct.
The Donald’s response, or lack thereof, to post-election insurrection-like behavior by his supporters more than fit the bill.
Well done, Democrats (plus others)!
As for President Biden: First, the man has presided over the greatest job creation in half a century. Perhaps passing legislation has been a drag but he did sign a massive (and massively needed) bipartisan-infrastructure bill into law. Not to mention major covid relief for families and businesses.
Maybe Biden’s poll numbers are on the rocks because nobody really thinks too highly of the American presidency anymore, i.e., nothing is ever good enough to cut through all this polarization.
Yes, consumer prices have surged, inflation has been through the roof.
But most economists will tell you this is the result of historic trade wars instigated by the previous president and a global pandemic that led to worldwide lockdowns.
In other words: it ain’t Biden’s doing.
This current national economy has beat all estimates by far. GDP grew at 6.9 percent the last quarter of 2021. 5.7 for the year, the best since 1984. The fed’s about to hike interest rates, a sure sign of a recovering economy.
Which is not to say that I believe our economy is more about politicians and who holds office than it is about us. “We the people”, who are resilient and bounce back to work hard and make things happen.
Frankly, Scarlet, I almost don’t give a …er, care about partisan politics anymore. How about five years of a Dem in the White House and then five of a Republican; provided each are vetted and chosen the way we used to, before the Internet and this un-natural human reach. One party “primaries” decide each term.
Yeah, I know, it’s a plan full of holes.
But it might beat this thing we have today; what with the most extreme politicians receiving more attention on-line vying and vowing to doom the opposition in stark hateful terms (a new study tells us that pols like GOP Senator Ted Cruz and “Democratic Socialist” AOC draw thousands of “interactions” compared to boring Joe Biden’s average of 527 in the same time period).
We might also take the time to recognize bad-faith politicians when they reveal themselves. I speak of Senator Mitch McConnell (who started out pro-choice); one has only to examine his record, his willingness to shirk all constitutional order to get his way.
McConnell cares about nothing but business interests: tax cuts, non-regulation and Supreme Court judges as protection racket for same. Is Kentucky OK with that?
