We hear a lot of discussion in today’s world about citizenship. There is a difference of opinion of who should be considered one and the right path created to make citizenship a reality. My purpose today is not to get into the politics of this subject but to use it as an example of a believer in Jesus’ right into a citizenship that matters more than any earthly one.
Most people in this world are citizens of some country either by being born there or by going through some process of requirement. No matter how great this is, it is only temporary with limits based upon how many years you live on this earth. The Bible speaks about a more important citizenship which is eternal and is in a wonderful place called heaven. It reads like this in Philippians 3:20: “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” When Jesus was about to leave the earth, He promised His disciples in John 14 that He was going to prepare this special place for them so that they could be with Him for eternity. This is the same place that any of us who choose to be a follower of Jesus can be a citizen in for eternity.
A key question is are you a citizen of an eternal home? If not, you can be.
