In Matthew 5 we are told, as followers of Jesus, to be the salt of the earth”. In other words, we are to be a positive influence on those within our sphere of influence. We are to influence others to become followers of Jesus.

It goes on to say that if the salt has lost its taste, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out and walked on by people. For us, if our influence is gone, then we lose sight of our purpose and we are not going to be affective.

Without purpose we are somewhat useless.

To be affective we must first become followers of Jesus ourselves. We cannot give away something we don’t possess. Secondly, we have to understand that every believer’s key purpose is to share the good news of Jesus and to live out a life which this represents.
