In the Christmas story, Luke chapter 2, an angel spoke words of encouragement to some shepherds by telling them, “I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people”.
The good news was that a Savior had been born who would give those who would accept Him a life full of joy and peace here on earth and more importantly eternal life. It seems in the world we ive in all we hear is bad news; everything from injustice to natural disasters to the pandemic to political squabbling etc. It is a rare thing to hear positive news even though there are a lot of good things happening.
There are also a lot of trials that people are facing personally that can make each day a challenge and for many they are looking for a reason to have a positive outlook.
Things have not changed as to the good news that the shepherds heard about and personally witnessed. That Savior that came into the world over 2000 years ago is still the Savior that can and will save us from our sins and their consequences. All we have to do is to open up our lives and accept the forgiveness and peace He offers and choose to become a follower of Jesus Christ.
The good news is promised to all of us who will accept Jesus in John 1:12 where is says, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”.
