Dalton Raulerson, the Pembroke teen who got struck by lightning Aug. 5 during football practice at Pinewood Christian Academy, was released from the hospital Thursday and is now at home.

According to the family, doctors are saying Raulerson is expected to make a full recovery.

"He is doing great," his mother Tonya Raulerson said Friday. "He has several follow-up appointments, but he is back to his self."

She said his balance is off a bit, stemming from the lightning bolt going through the entire right half of his body, but he is walking on his own.

He also has avoided just about all the symptoms that usually occur with lightning strikes, such as memory loss and internal damage, she said.

"It just goes to show that the power of prayer is amazing," Tonya Raulerson said. "I can’t even begin to describe the feelings I had when this happened until he was awake and talking to me. We are so lucky and blessed."

She said her husband Lawrence picked up Dalton’s football cleat the other day and saw it has a hole in it from where the bolt exited Dalton’s body.

"This community, including Pinewood, has been just so great during all this," Tonya Raulerson said. "They continue to reach out and help us, and it means a lot to us."
