MIAMI — Forecasters say Tropical Storm Don in the southern Gulf of Mexico is tracking toward parched southeastern Texas and is expected to make landfall late Friday.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Wednesday that it doesn't appear the storm will strengthen into a hurricane.

National Weather Service meteorologist Tim Speece says the storm should make landfall north of Corpus Christi with rains of 1 to 2 inches.

Forecasters say it would not bring enough rain to halt a serious drought.

Forecasters say maximum sustained winds are at 40 mph (65 kph). The center of the storm is about 675 miles (1,086 kilometers) east-southeast of Corpus Christi.

A tropical storm watch has been issued for the Texas coast from Port Mansfield north to San Luis Pass.
