SPRINGFIELD - An Effingham County man's death has been ruled a homicide months after his skeletal remains turned up in a field.

Effingham sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor says Georgia Bureau of Investigation autopsy results show Robert Mack died from unspecified trauma.

Mack was 49 years old when his family reported him missing in 2005. He was last seen at the Shawnee General Store, about a few miles north of where authorities found his remains on March 8.

The GBI used an anthropologist from Atlanta to assist with the manner and cause of death.
