Single car wreck knocks out power off 144
CEMC1

A single car accident at 9:55 p.m. Thursday at Brisbon Road and Highway 144 knocked out power.

The driver was said to be racing on Interstate 95 and was pursued by Georgia State Patrol onto Highway 144, according to reports. The  driver has minor injuries and the GSP is investigating.

The driver reportedly headed down 144 toward Brisbon Road where he was clocked at 96 mph near Harris Trail. The driver then allegedly cut off his lights in an attempt to elude the officers and tried to turn into Brisbon Road. He hit the curb and lost control crashing into Coastal Electric Cooperative’s 25,000 volt switch gear and terminating cabinet, reports say.

Coastal Electric spokesman Mark Bolton said Friday the extent of the damage is unknown, but some equipment will have to be replaced. The company's power lines were recently installed underground along 144, but there are transformers and other equipment that has to be above ground and the driver hit a piece of that equipment.
