A minor sewage spill occurred at a construction site on Cedar Street in Richmond Hill Wednesday morning.

Planning and zoning director Steve Scholar said that at approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday, the telephone company working in the area accidentally cut a two inch gash in the force main line in a ditch near the road when installing telephone lines there.

Approximately 1,000 gallons were spilled, but that city workers acted quickly and managed to contain the spill in the ditch.

The sewage was pumped out of the ditch and taken to the local sewage treatment plant.

The spill site was then neutralized by being treated with lime.

The construction site is a future office building for Charlie Stafford and is located behind the Bryan County News office, near J.F. Gregory Park.
