Richmond Hill’s first annual National Night Out celebration is taking shape. The event is Aug. 4, and a meeting is being held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for those who want to get involved.

National Night Out is defined as a community gathering aimed to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, and other anti-crime efforts. But Richmond Hill’s version is also a family night, with several activities lined up.

RHPD Cpl. Susan Willis, who is coordinating the event, requested funds to cover food costs and miscellaneous expenses at last week’s council meeting. Mayor Richard Davis pledged to grant $1,200 out of his annual Mayor’s contingency fund toward the event, citing how important the event is.
