A ribbon-cutting for the new city playground in Pembroke will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 91 Lanier St., according to an email from Mandy Toole, the city’s recreation director.

The recently completed playground, which is behind the J. Dixie Harn Community Center, has replaced the previous playground that was shut down last year because of safety concerns with the equipment.

The new equipment was partially paid for with a $25,000 grant from State Farm Insurance’s Neighborhood Assist program. Pembroke was one of 40 grant winners nationwide.
