Age: 67; born Aug. 25, 1942
City: Gainesville
Education: Bachelor's degree from Mercer University, 1964; law degree from Mercer University Law School, 1966.
Professional/political experience: Former U.S. congressman. Deal served in the U.S. House from 1992 until he stepped down in March to run for governor. He also is part owner in an auto salvage business. He worked as a lawyer with the Hall County District Attorney's Office and served as a Hall County Juvenile Court judge from 1973 to 1974. He also served in the U.S. Army.

Name: Karen Handel

Professional/political experience: Former Georgia secretary of state. Handel served as secretary of state from 2007 until she stepped down in January to run for governor. Handel served as an aide to First Lady Marilyn Quayle from 1989 to 1993, deputy chief of staff to Gov. Sonny Perdue in 2003 and chairwoman of the Fulton County Commission from 2003 to 2006. She previously worked as an executive with KPMG and CIBA Vision.
