If everything goes as planned, the Belfast Keller Road bridge over I-95 will close Jan. 9 and the interstate on ramps will be open, according to the Georgia DOT. And it’s all part of the $19 million new Interstate 95 interchange project at Belfast Keller, interchange bridge over I-95.

The ramps were initially set to be opened Monday, but that didn’t happen due to “traffic control measure finalization,” a press release said.

R.B. Baker Construction will close the current Belfast Keller Road bridge over I-95 and install a detour that will remain in place for replacement of the current bridge which should be completed in late 2020.

Sign on Highway 17, Highway 144 and Belfast River Road will announce detour routs, and officials urge drivers to pay attention and slow down through detours.

The interchange on-ramps opening will allow Belfast Keller Road traffic to use the newly constructed ramps to merge onto I-95 traffic.

Vehicles on the east side of the interstate interchange will be able to enter northbound and traffic on the west side will be able to enter southbound, the press release said. However, motorists can not access Belfast Keller Road from I-95 due to construction of the interchange roundabouts and bridge construction.

Georgia Department of Transportation fast tracked the completion of the on-ramps to relieve some congestion in South Bryan and expedite hurricane evacuation, if needed, according to a DOT press release.
