The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Richmond Hill High School received a boost from local running company Georgia Game Changers on Monday.
Sandra and Ron Elliott, owners of Georgia Game Changers, presented a check to four cadets for more than $4,000 for their assistance with the inaugural Resolution Runz — an event that offered one-mile, three-mile and 10-mile runs — in January through WaterWays Township.
The cadets volunteered with the run and helped plot the courses, secure sponsors and handled many of the race-day details.
On hand to accept the check for $4,028.42 were cadets Gareth Price, Amanda Elliott, Danielle Wedeking and Michael Glenn.
Ron Elliott said all the proceeds from the event went to the JROTC program at the high school. The donation was a way to connect in the community, he said, adding, “It is part of our ministry.”
Sandra Elliott said they had received a lot of positive feedback about the event and couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome.
JROTC instructor and retired Lt. Col. Rob Rooker offered a “special thanks” to Georgia Game Changers and WaterWays Township for all of the support.
“We have an outstanding partnership between the community, Georgia Game Changers and the high school and I could not be more pleased,” Rooker said. “We are a citizenship program, and part of the course is to lead and execute a community event. (The students) did an outstanding job.”
