The final bands of winter precipitation exited Georgia early Thursday afternoon, leaving a blanket of snow along the Interstate 20 corridor from roughly Madison to Augusta, according to Georgia Department of Transportation Communications Director Karlene Barron.
Despite the accumulation, no serious issues were reported on the state’s roadways. DOT crews worked around the clock to plow roadways, and emergency acquisitions of salt from other states provided adequate materials to continue retreatments, DOT Chief Engineer Russell McMurry said.
In Coastal Georgia temperatures never dropped low enough for much freezing or snow and officials report no problems.
