Seniors learn how to put out fires
Extinguisher story
A demonstration of using a fire extinguisher to put out a fire was held Tuesday at the Richmond Hill Senior Center.

Richmond Hill Fire Department members provided attendees at the Richmond Hill Senior Center with a fire-safety presentation focused on fire-extinguisher use Tuesday.
RHFD Lt. Michelle Meacham, along with firefighters Brendan Greene and Jordan Johnson, were on hand with a fire-extinguisher training unit to help provide the city’s senior citizens with tips on what to do in the event of a fire in the home.
“It’s important for everyone to know how to use fire extinguishers,” Fire Marshal David Williams said. “And what’s special about this program is that we use real fire. We want them to see what it’s really like, but in a controlled environment. Hopefully, if they ever do encounter a fire, they won’t panic and will know how to react.”
RHFD offers this program free of charge upon request. For more information, call the fire marshal’s office at 756-3749.
