Authorities have released a security camera photograph of the man who robbed the Midway Branch of The Heritage Bank Wednesday afternoon.

The bank was robbed about 2 p.m. Liberty County Sheriff Steve Sikes confirmed the report and said authorities are canvassing nearby neighborhoods in search of a suspect.

Jon Long, chief deputy for the sheriff's department, said that after the robbery an undisclosed amount of cash was found near the intersection of Limerick Road and Highway 17 north of Midway. It was found and reported by a person, who was not identified.

The bank has not said how much money was taken.

According to a “be on the lookout” alert issued by a 911 dispatcher, the lone suspect, who used a handgun during the robbery, is a thin man, wearing a hat and carrying a shopping bag. He reportedly was driving a tan Crown Victoria.

The Heritage Bank Marketing Director John Crowley also acknowledged the robbery and said no one was injured; however, he referred all further inquiries to the FBI, which took over the investigation.
