Lane closures set for Highway 80 this week

The Georgia Department of Transportation will be conducting temproary east and westbound alternating lane closures this week on Highway 80 in Bryan County.

From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, weather permitting, alternating lane closures will be utilized for roadway construction. Delays are expected, and motorists should seek alternate routes if possible.

Motorists can access real-time, statewide, route-specific information on accidents, road work, traffic and weather conditions through Georgia 511 -- a free phone service.  By dialing 511, callers also can transfer to operators to 24 hours a day to report incidents or request assistance.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
