Four soldiers have been arrested in connection with the deaths of two young people about a week ago in Long County.

Sgt. Anthony Peden, Pfc. Michael Burnett, Pvt. Isaac Aguigui, and Pvt. Christopher Salmon, all active duty soldiers assigned to the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, face multiple charges, including murder, party to murder and possession of a firearm while committing a crime, according to a press release from Fort Stewart.

The men were taking into custody for questioning Saturday morning in a cooperative investigation with the Criminal Investigation Division, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Long County Sheriff's Office and federal law enforcement agencies, the release said. After the interviews, law enforcement officials determined they had enough information to arrest the soldiers.

 Wesley Thomas, stepfather of one of the victims, said he was notified about the arrests at 9 p.m. Saturday.
His daughter, Tiffany Renee York, 17, of Midway, and Michael Roark, 20, of Fort Stewart were found in a wooded area off Morgan Lake Road Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators have not said how the young people were killed, nor what investigators believe could have led to the violence.
Attempts to get more information from GBI Special Agent Mike McDaniel early Sunday were unsuccessful.

As of Sunday, the suspects are believed to be held in Liberty County Regional Jail.

"At least this is a step toward our healing," Thomas said of the arrests.
