An Ellabell man has been charged with murder.

According to a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, James Slater was arrested Monday.

By request of the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, the GBI investigated the shooting death of Abdullah Mutcherson at a Cypress Bay Loop Road address in Ellabell.

The preliminary findings are that Mutcherson was a victim of a homicide.

The GBI medical-examiner’s office conducted an autopsy on Murtcherson’s body.

The Sheriff’s Office did not make an incident report available to the Bryan County News by press time Wednesday.

This is the first reported homicide in Bryan County since September 2014, when 59-year-old Michael Bragg was shot to death during an altercation on Lincoln Circle in Kilkenny.
