Earlier story
A driver who led officers on a chase from Richmond Hill has eluded them on Fort Stewart, where the hunt has spread out.
The chase started just after noon during a traffic stop. Authorities did not say why the vehicle was stopped.
Richmond Hill Police Chief of Detectives Maj. Mike Albritton said an officer stopped a blue Nissan with Florida plates, but as he approached the car the driver took off, heading onto Fort Stewart.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Eric Wilkes said the driver has been able to elude authorities. The post is lined with small dirt roads and tank trails.
Wilkes said the driver is wanted for driving on a suspended license and has a warrant outstanding for his arrest from Florida.
Officials currently have various tank trails sealed off and officers guarding intersections, hoping to find the driver.
