Alleged bank robber caught in Hinesville

A North Carolina man working on a Fort Stewart contract was arrested Tuesday for bank robbery.
According to Southeast U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force Special Deputy Gary Richardson, Thomas A. Hammond was arrested at the  Econolodge in Hinesville when a warrant for his arrest issued through the  marshal’s office in Charlotte, N.C. was executed.
Richardson said members of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the Hinesville Police Department and the marshal’s office learned Hammond was staying on the first floor of the hotel on East Oglethorpe Highway and arrested him without incident.
Hammond is accused of robbing one bank on a weekend visit home. He also is being questioned about several other bank robberies.
